Brushland villagers: boats, requests and no fail state

Brushland villagers arrive by boat once you build a dock by the open sea. They walk the roads to their new homes, and smoke rises from the chimneys. They also ask for things, such as a bridge or work, and if you look after them more boats come and the hamlet grows into a kingdom.

Requests

The store quotes villagers calling "Bridge, please!" and "Work wanted!". Responding with a bridge, a mine or a cottage with a view is how the country grows. As the developer's announcement puts it, villagers ask for a bridge and then act as if it was their idea.

What they say they are doing

Asked what they are up to, villagers give short status lines. The store's examples are "Gone fishing", "Milling merrily" and "Doorstep dawdling". One villager carries a sheep without explanation.

You cannot lose

There is no clock and no failure. The worst outcome the developer describes is painting a lake under a crowd. The villagers cartwheel away and swim off to find a new home, and that can be undone. The FAQ confirms: no clock and no fail state.
